The diet contain input of foods that consist a large amount of protein, with a small percentage of carbohydrate, and from there comes it’s second name – the carbohydrate-free diet. This diet suits good for people who want to lose more weight in a shorter period.
Theoretical explanation of the diet
When you eliminate the intake of food with carbohydrates in the body, the liver converts the fat into glucose. The result of that process is getting toxic ketones that reduce the appetite of people eat less and tactics loss or reduction of body weight.
IMPORTANT! Because this diet does not include the intake of vitamins, Dr. Robert Atkins recommended intake of vitamin tablets that will complement the apparent deficiency of vitamins and minerals.
In this diet protein intake is limited, you can eat as much you want, what you want and when you want, but only permitted list of dishes.
Critical review of the Atkinson diet
This diet caused many controversies. Some research suggests that long-term implementation of the diet (optimal is 14 -15 days) leads to laziness, fatigue and lethargy. Mood changes are more noticeable in women. Also, there are risks for increased content of triglycerides, and increased content of saturated fatty acids. These are the permitted foods:
-Chicken (all cuts of meat such as chicken livers and hearts, steak, legs, wings, etc.)
-Beef and veal (all pieces of veal and beef)
-Pork (all pieces of pork)
-Lamb, goose, duck, turkey meat, game meat
all kinds of offal, dried meats, sausages and meat paste.
-Fish (freshwater, sea – salmon, mackerel, hake, Pang seafood – lobster, squid, shrimp, etc.) And fish cans
-Soup (you can do combinations of meat, carrots, broccoli, parsnips, cauliflower, parsley)
-Vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, garlic, onions, cabbage, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, leeks, salads, lettuce, radishes, mushrooms, parsley, celery etc.)
Preparation: The eggs, meat and the fishes prepare in all ways – baked, fried, boiled your choice. You can eat the salads fresh seasoned with salt, vinegar and oil, and the remaining vegetables to browning if desired – is allowed and adding spice. For the soup you can combine meat and vegetables and get a great taste.
-2L water + 1 lemon day
-1 cup of green tea (without sugar)
-Other teas quantity desired (you can sweeten it with sodium / saccharin)
-multivitamins (at least one or other effervescent multivitamin tablet or vitamins A, B, C, E, calcium and magnesium).
These are the allowed liquids:
-Coffee without sugar (you can sweeten it with sodium / saccharin)
-White wine 0,5 l after first week
It is forbidden:
Bread, potatoes, flour, rice, soybeans, peas, bread crumbs, fried meat, pasta, peanut, any fruits, nuts, hot dogs, roux, any sweets, chocolates, no snacks, ice cream, any kind of cheese etc. You can eat only what is allowed.
Note: This diet you can hold down as much as days as you want to lose weight, but our recommendation is 15 to 20 days maximum, with optional additional intake of vitamins mentioned above. If you follow exactly 15 days likely would weaken 8-10 pounds.
